First appearing in the United States, the concept of the big sales day has been embraced by many Romanians.
Black Friday is the day many wait for to purchase appliances, cosmetics, clothing, and even pet food.
Retailers have understood the demand and are meeting customers with advantageous offers and competitive prices.
Just one retailer on the Romanian market reached 459 million lei this Black Friday, 25% more than last year.
However, Black Friday is not just about retailers’ profits, but also about redirecting them toward those less fortunate among us, who cannot afford new things even though prices have been significantly reduced.
Black Friday kicks off the holiday sales
Of these three days, the best known in Romania is Black Friday as the day of discounts and, indeed, the day that kicks off Christmas shopping.
It is an intense period for retailers and courier services, but with considerable results reflected in generous revenues and happy customers.
Cyber Monday continues online sales
Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving in the USA.
On this day, employees returning to work after a weekend spent chasing Black Friday deals continue their online shopping from the office.
Another opportunity for major online retailers to attract customers with generous offers.
Giving Tuesday kicks off holiday good deeds
However, even less known here is the Tuesday of Giving or Giving Tuesday.
In short, it is an international movement that started in New York in 2012 as a follow-up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is celebrated on the last Tuesday of November.
While Black Friday kicks off the seasonal sales, Giving Tuesday kicks off the acts of charity and solidarity during the winter holidays.
Last year, over $300 million in cash donations were raised.
Giving Tuesday – the world day of good deeds
What is it?
Giving Tuesday is about giving time, resources (money, products, expertise) and putting your heart into the causes that need your voice.
Giving Tuesday is a day for giving, where you can encourage both employees and customers to do a good deed!
Giving Tuesday highlights people’s generosity and the communication power of social media, creating a movement that brings together NGOs, public institutions, companies, and people of goodwill to encourage community involvement.
Since 2017, Giving Tuesday has also been celebrated in Romania. You can spread the good news with the hashtag #GivingTuesdayRO.
Why get involved?
Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for your company to support a cause that you and your team believe in or that integrates with your brand values. Together, you can get involved in a fundraising campaign, an awareness campaign, or a volunteering event.
At a company level, Giving Tuesday brings a series of benefits:
- it is an opportunity to give back to society,
- you strengthen your position as a socially responsible company,
- you align with your brand values,
- it is an opportunity for the whole team to get involved through volunteering and to strengthen interpersonal relationships,
- you will offer smiles 🙂
How to get involved?
The idea is simple: identify the cause or organization you want to support, the need in your community, and then make the world a better place through your contribution.
The contribution can be a sum of money or donated products, volunteer hours, awareness or fundraising campaigns, or by offering your expertise and services.
The official website of the Giving Tuesday movement in Romania has compiled a list of action ideas, resources, and case studies to inspire you.
Donate blood! For example, a necessary and beautiful initiative comes from Galantom, which tomorrow, November 27, on Giving Tuesday, will coordinate a blood donation campaign. If you want to join the initiative, check the event page here.
MKOR supports Peditel on Giving Tuesday
Since we are believers in “practice what you preach”, we have chosen this Tuesday to commit to giving from our expertise to a cause that supports children’s health.
Thus, Giving Tuesday is the occasion on which we take the first step towards implementing the project to measure the satisfaction of the Peditel telephone line beneficiaries.
Peditel is the only free 24/7 pediatric telephone assistance service in Romania, a call center established in 2014 by the Parents from Romania Foundation. It is addressed to all parents, offering them professional medical advice for conditions without vital risk to the child’s health, at any time of the day or night.
The Peditel telephone line is necessary and useful for parents because they benefit from telephone assistance directly from pediatricians.
Because we like their approach and want to support it, we decided to support this cause by offering what we do best: research services.
MKOR specialists will work for Peditel with the same dedication and professionalism they offer to clients. They will create and implement satisfaction questionnaires for the beneficiaries of the telephone service, namely parents or caregivers of children. The collected results and the recommendations formulated by MKOR will lead to better control of the pediatric assistance services that the team of doctors, volunteers, and coordinators offer non-stop.
We want our involvement to have a direct impact on the quality control of the services offered by Peditel and thus help the parents and children who benefit from the assistance of the medical team.
