The First Study Targeting the Automatic Access Systems Market in Romania
In 2021, MKOR Consulting conducted the first study targeting the local automatic access systems market. Through this pioneering project, we aimed to assist players in this market with information available for the first time in Romania.
Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for automatic access systems, which ensure contactless entry, thus limiting the potential spread of viruses.
At the same time, automatic access solutions contribute to the efficient utilization of spaces and the flow of people within a facility, thereby avoiding overcrowding; they offer energy efficiency and allow for the orderly access of people or vehicles.
The aim of the study was to identify the market size, the trends defining it, and the main players present in the Romanian market.
To this end, we approached a mixed research methodology, which allowed us to complement and mutually validate data from secondary and primary sources, consisting of interviews with experts and players in the automatic access systems market.
Measuring the Potential of the Automatic Access Systems Market in Romania
Sizing the automatic access solutions market involved defining the competitors and the trends influencing it.
We started by identifying the players present in this market through desk research. We collected and synthesized relevant information from secondary data sources, which showed that the local automatic access systems market is a moderately concentrated market, with strong players at the top.
Detailed analyses of the top competitors showed that the top ten players in the market account for approximately two-thirds of total sales. Furthermore, half of the companies at the top of the ranking are Romanian companies, with over ten years of experience in the local market.
The market leader is the German group Hormann, holding a share of nearly 18% of the total, followed by the Assa Abloy group, RTH Proconstruct, Kadra Tech, and Geze Romania.
To size the market, secondary data was supplemented with valuable information from primary sources. Inputs from the interviewed experts and players in this market allowed us to estimate the total value of the automatic access systems market: approximately 67 million euros (334.6 million RON).
The non-residential sector has the largest contribution of approximately 72%, represented predominantly by the commercial segment (commercial and office buildings, HoReCa) and the industrial & logistics segment.
Regarding product categories, approximately half of the market is represented by industrial access solutions and docking systems (38%) and automatic doors (17%).
The product offer is varied, with over 40 brands including brands of representative manufacturers at the European level.
The residential and non-residential building construction sector is the main factor influencing the evolution of the market for automatic access systems, whether it involves new constructions, capital repairs, modernizations, or the newest trends in the conversion of built spaces, accelerated by the Covid pandemic.
Finally, the collected data allowed us to estimate that the market for automatic access solutions in Romania will maintain an upward trend in the coming years, but with a slower growth rate compared to previous years. Thus, by 2024 this sector will reach approximately 459 million lei, 37% more than in 2020.
